THE VEGAN ACCORDS CITIES INITIATIVE
1 CITY. 1 WEEK. 100,000 VEGANS.
A city chooses to challenge the status quo. The vegan movement answers with collective action.
What is the Cities Initiative?
The Cities Initiative is the flagship initiative of The Vegan Accords and the mechanism through which individual conviction becomes collective leverage.
It connects formal city commitments with collective action at scale, bringing together vegans, organizations, and allies. A participating city adopts commitments designed to champion plant-based living. In response, the movement shows up—directing attention, participation, and economic activity toward that city at a scale that cannot be ignored.
This is more than a gathering. The host city becomes a glimpse of the vegan future: a place where vegan life feels visible, supported, and easier to live. It is a public demonstration of what becomes possible when the vegan movement organizes its economic power and uses it to push markets, institutions, and governments toward change.
Why are we doing this?
Social justice movements have never succeeded by waiting for every person to change individually. They move forward when committed people organize, concentrate their power, and create pressure that institutions cannot ignore.
Vegans already exercise economic choice every day, but that power is dispersed. The Cities Initiative concentrates that power. By bringing 100,000 vegans to one place, we aim to redirect demand toward plant-based businesses and options, demonstrate both the opportunity created by supporting the movement and the cost of treating it as invisible, and challenge the industries that profit from the continued abuse of animals.
The week is designed to disrupt business as usual—peacefully, visibly, and through collective participation. We are not trying to convert an entire city; we are showing that a committed movement can shift demand, influence institutions, and create conditions for lasting systems change.
